Offshore Renewable Energy (ORE) Catapult is the UK’s leading technology innovation and research centre for offshore renewable energy. The Catapult centres, funded by Innovate UK, are a network of world-leading centres designed to transform the UK’s capability for innovation in specific areas and help drive future economic growth.
At ORE Catapult, we leverage our unique facilities and expertise to work in close partnership with the heavyweights of the offshore renewables industry industrials, the developers and owner/operators – to improve existing and develop next generation renewable energy technology in the UK. In so doing, we enable and support the development of a vibrant indigenous supply chain, provide a clear route to market for innovative new companies and technologies, and direct and pull through applied research from the UK’s world-leading academic base.
My role is General Counsel and Company Secretary with a wide ranging legal and governance remit over both operational and strategic matters.
Please provide a short summary of the vacancy/project:
The Catapult is a fairly unique model of business which incorporates both public and private sector facets. Whilst operating in the renewables sector, it requires some understanding of the public funding landscape, state aid and competition while having more routine in house skill requirements. This development of the role had also evolved over a period. I initially set up the legal function and created a team incorporating legal, compliance, risk and governance functions. My departure had led to some restructuring of the department to allow growth for those team members brought into the team whilst recognising that there would be a gap of certain public-sector knowledge and skills that would be needed. The challenge was therefore finding someone to fit this skills gap whilst ensuring there was still growth for the rest of the team.
